Forskningsinteresser:

 Tilvejebringelse af modelorienterede systemøkologiske sammenhænge. Zooplankton økologi og fysiologi, bi­oener­getik samt popula­tionsbiologi. Dette indbefatter interaktioner mellem rovdyr og bytte (alger, bakterier) indenfor meropla­nkton samt holoplank­ton, såvel mikro- som mesozooplank­ton. Studier af livsstrate­gi­er, adfærd, fødeopta­gelse, føde­selektion samt vækst og sekun­dærpro­duktion i felt og labora­torium. Økotoksikologiske studier af energiallokering i zooplankton, mortalitet-vækst-respira­tions-adfærds respons på toksikanter. Anvendelse af molekylarbiologiske teknikker (PCR, speciering) indenfor miljøbiologien. Live feed indenfor akvakultur. Invasive muslingearters performance.

  • 1991 Ph.D. within trophodynamics in larvae from benthic invertebrates, Marine Biological Laboratory, Copenhagen University.

Research fields: Pelagic ecology, transformation of energy and organic matter, particle grazing by zooplankton, grazing behavior, fluid mechanics, growth and bioenergetics of holo- and meroplankton, population dynamics of meroplankton and settlement of bivalves, development of molecular biological tools for larval identification, live feed and especially copepods in aquaculture. Up scaling of live feed production units from laboratory to industrial scale.

Research management: I have managed a research team of varying dimension for the past 20 years. At present, the team is composed of 1 prof, 1 assistant prof, 1 postdoc and 9 PhD students and 2 master students besides technicians. I have among other tasks been WP-leader 1996-98 for EU-Trans Atlantic Study of Calanus (TASC); PI of 1996-99 Danish Research Councils Pelagic Ecology and carbon flow through the lower trophic levels in West Greenland marine waters; WP-leader of 2000-2003 Strukturdirektoratet: Sustainable Exploitation of blue mussels in Denmark. At present, I manage COMA as WP-leader and AMPHICOP as PI.
