The primary focus is on interdisciplinary discussions of various types of critical theory and philosophy of science. We focus on how these discussions can throw light on contemporary social, political and economic reality. In particular, we look at how ideologies such as neo-liberalism, populism and multiculturalism have an impact on political discourses and decision-making.

The prospects for the near future consists of regular fortnightly meetings where the members present and discuss their recently published books and articles, conference papers and manuscripts for publication. We also plan to invite speakers from other departments at RUC as well as from other universities to present relevant research. The group will serve as a forum for stimulating intellectual discussions, initiate and facilitate joint publications and formulate research proposals. We intend to do this in cooperation with other colleagues from RUC as well as colleagues from other universities, whereby we place our research group in a larger network of scholars. In addition, the group is interested in exploring the fruitful links between research and teaching by, amongst other things, contributing to RUC’s summer school programmes.
