Beskrivelse

The dataset presents information on Initiatives Opposing Populist Parties (IoPPs) in Europe by public authorities, political parties and civil society actors, at state and international levels. IoPPs are defined as acts which seek to delimit the participation of populist parties in the public sphere and/or the impact of their ideas and actions on public policy. Data was collected from samples of newspaper articles and primarily consists of information about types and subtypes of initiatives developed in a typology of IoPPs. It includes data on IoPPs targeting Hungarian Civic Alliance (Fidesz), Law and Justice (Poland), Alternative for Germany, Podemos and Vox (Spain), League and Five Star Movement (Italy), Sweden Democrats and Danish People’s Party. The dataset is described and analysed in the Bourne, Angela (ed) Democratic Defence as Normal Politics: Everyday Opposition to Populist Parties in Europe (2024, Palgrave).
