Youth Relationships, diasporic identities: In the context of Globalization and Diversity

Aktivitet: Tale eller præsentationForedrag og mundtlige bidrag

Beskrivelse

My lecture deals with the formation of multiple belongings in context of diversity and globalisation within a social psychological framework. The youth are perceived as active agents, in the process of developing and negotiating their belongings within the combination of circumstantial and primordial conceptualisation, drawing attention to the specificity of identity claims. The meanings of belongings are discussed through the dimensions of ‘recognition’ as well ‘exclusion’ through interconnections between the country of residence and the country of origin. These conceptualisations are empirically illustrated through my longitudinal follow up study of youth originating from South Asia and living in Denmark as well as the current research project about mixed couples and their children.
