Beskrivelse

Deltagelse i seminar med titlen: det pandemiske samfund med præsentationen: The trying experience of unemployment during Covid-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented societal and economicchanges, unsettling societies all over the world. Now, more than a year after COVID-19spread rapidly across the globe, it has become increasingly clear that differentcommunities, groups, regions, and countries experienced the pandemic and itsrepercussions drastically different. From divergencies in the adaptation of COVID-19policies, to rising health inequalities and new technologies of surveillance, the COVID-19pandemic has exposed established patterns of social differentiation and vulnerability. Thesocial sciences and sociology have played an active role in enriching our understanding ofhow different individuals, organizations, and cultures are impacted differently by thesame biological threat.

In Denmark, emergency fundings had been granted to numerous projects studying awide range of issues of the pandemic crisis as it unfolded, providing an unique insightinto its social dynamics. The virtual conference “Pandemic Societies: a comparativeperspective” aims to facilitate dialogue and discussion about this rich body of researchand its (preliminary) results. The focus will be on comparative aspects, between cases, groups or in an international context.

Barbara Fersch from the Sociology Research Group will chair presentations on “Welfare and civil society” and present her own research on how parents navigated health risks during the first reopening of schools in the COVID-19 pandemic in Denmark.
