The course pays attention to historical and contemporary developments in four Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea (North and South) and Indonesia) and discusses the societies of Asia at both macro and micro levels. The examples, which are related to international relations/foreign policy, development aid, gender relations/gender equality, population policy, non-governmental organizing or democracy, will illustrate the complex realities of each country’s societies and thereby help us gain a better understanding of how they function.
