Beskrivelse
Art and Science on Display is a discussion-based workshop focusing on how the objects of art and science encounters are exhibited and with what effects. It will explore what the institutional contexts of museums and galleries and different curatorial strategies mean for how broader publics meet and engage with such objects.Key questions will be: What are the purposes, values and impacts of the encounters between art and science in an exhibition context? Has ‘progress’ been made in exhibition strategies over the last 30 + years of sciart projects? Which visions of science or art are prioritized or downplayed in different exhibition modes and contexts? Who in ‘science’ and ‘art’ gets involved in these exhibition projects, and who does not? What is the role of the humanities and curatorial expertise in bridging, contrasting, or combining art and science in context? How do these hybrid exhibition projects feed back into the broader domains of art and science, or do they tend to stay within their ecosystemic niche? What might be learned from comparing exhibitions to other media – from creative writing, to films, debates, political activism and beyond?
