Thematically, my specialisation is on religion; religious revivalism; consumer/material culture in a religious perspective; middle class; the transformation of modern forms of capitalism; food cultures; cultural globalisation and migration. After completing my master’s degree in 1997 I taught in the Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen, from 1998 to 1999. In 2000 I started my PhD training at International Development Studies (IDS), RUC. In my current position as Associate Professor at IDS I am also teaching at Social Science Basic Studies. In 2007, I completed the professional postgraduate teacher training courses in project supervision and course teaching [adjunkt pædagogikum] at RUC. Since my first experiences with fieldwork-based research in 1994, I have conducted fieldwork for a period of over three years in Africa (South Africa) and Europe (Britain) and Asia (India, Malaysia and Singapore). In connection with periods of fieldwork I have been attached to universities in Malaysia, Britain and Singapore. I am the author of PROPER ISLAMIC CONSUMPTION: SHOPPING AMONG THE MALAYS IN MODERN MALAYSIA (NIAS Press 2008) (http://www.amazon.com/Proper-Islamic-Consumption-Simultaneous-Nias-Nordic/dp/8776940322/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308849365&sr=1-1) and THE HALAL FRONTIER: MUSLIM CONSUMERS IN A GLOBALIZED MARKET (Palgrave Macmillan 2011) (http://www.amazon.com/Halal-Frontier-Globalized-Contemporary-Anthropology/dp/0230114180/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308849245&sr=8-1) as well as numerous articles and chapters in edited volumes. Currently, I am working on a book with the provisional title GLOBAL HALAL ZONES: ISLAM, STATES AND MARKETS.
