Forskningsområde

Lars Hulgård (born 29.04.58) is full professor of social entrepreneurship at Roskilde University, Denmark; professor of social entrepreneurship at Telemark University College, Norway, and permanent visiting professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Professor Hulgård studied sociology at the University of Copenhagen, where he specialized in Weberian conflict theory and social change. He received his PhD in Public Administration from Roskilde University with a thesis on the experimental turn in social policy and social work.
At Roskilde University he serves five main functions:

  3. Founder of and professor at the MA in Social Science in Social Entrepreneurship and Management, http://www.ruc.dk/sem

  4. Co-director and founder, Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, http://www.ruc.dk/forskning/forskningscentre/cse/ 

  5. Research, teaching and consultancy in social innovation, social work, social policy, social economy, social entrepreneurship, social service, social enterprise, civil society, capacity building and transformation of the welfare state.


In 1998 Professor Hulgård was co-founder of the European EMES-European Research Network. EMES started as a collaboration of 11 universities within the field of social economy studying the changes in the third sector towards emergence of social enterprises and social entrepreneurship in Europe. In 2013 the organization opened up to new members globally. EMES organizes bi-annual international doctoral summer schools (Corsica, 2008, Roskilde, 2010, Trento, 2012, Timisoara, 2014, Glasgow 2016) and bi-annual international conferences (Barcelona, 2008, Trento, 2009, Roskilde, 2011, Liege, 2013, Helsinki, 2015) and collaborates with scientific networks in South East Asia and Latin America. EMES is funded by EU FP 5, 6 and 7 Programs as well as research and consultancy activities for national governments, OECD and the UNDP. EMES books are published in nine languages including Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Japanese. EMES work is quoted in legal documents and policy programs in states as different as Italy, Poland, Korea, Finland, and Greece, Denmark as well as by the European Commission. 

Professor Hulgård has been the President of EMES since January 2010 and will end his term in December 2015.
